Abstract

Discovery of intention of the author or “intentionalism”, while being one of the most important and classic goals of understanding, is also the most controversial issue. The problems and reasons against it, has convincer many of theoreticians to consider the intentionalism as an impossible and undesirable goal.

This thesis, wich is a descriptive-cratical research with library method, studies the influential principles on the problem of goals of understanding and prepares a proper ground for accepting “plurality of meaning” and “inclusive theory of meaning”, on the one hand, and to present our accepted theory in intentionalism, i. e. “Inclusive Intentionalisms” on the other.

Also, by explaining all kinds of intentions, we could consider different types of intentionalism, and then, we gave a clear idea of the Shiite intentionalism.

At first we have explained all kinds of intentions including: 1) Psychological and Phenomenological Intentions; 2) Semantic, Categorial and Motivational Intentions; 3) Actual and Hypothetical Intentions; 4) Internal and External Intentions. And then we have divided Intentionalism into: (1) Intentionalism as a theory of interpretation aims, and as a theory of the meaning of texts; (2) Actual and Hypothetical Intentionalisms (Actual Intentionalism includes: (a) Extreme, (b) Moderate; and Hypothetical Intentionalism includes (a) Original, (b) Modern); (3) Exclusive and Inclusive intentionalsms.

The thesis also refers to some of the most important and common goals which are able to be adjusted to intentionalism, (such as: to discover Chimerical truth or internal truth of text, to discover original possibilities, to discover presently meaning: to make meaning understandable, demythologize, presently understanding, Appropriation and Value-maximizing and attention to all Meaning Possibilities) and studies all problems suggested against the Intentionalism Theory, and distinguishes and refutes all misunderstanding around it and ratiocinates the correct idea of the theory, and finally focuses on the peculiar characterizations of religious texts in relation with goals of understanding.
